The Vini del Montello (Montello wines) are included in the two designations of origin Montello DOCG and Montello Asolo DOC. These are small productions of fine red and white wines.
Montello Docg
Montello DOCG, named after the Montello hill, is an elegant red wine capable of long ageing. It is made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Carmenère grapes that have long been cultivated in the 19 municipalities of the area. The iron content in the soil provides structure, the sandstone provides minerality, and the altitude and climate contribute to freshness.
Montello Asolo DOC
In the Montello Asolo DOC area, Bianchetta, Chardonnay, Manzoni Bianco, Pinot Bianco and Pinot Grigio are used for white wines. For red wines, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Carmenère and Merlot are used, as is the indigenous Recantina, a local variety cultivated for centuries and saved from extinction thanks to long, commendable research. There is also a subzone of particular value in the municipality of Volpago del Montello, and specifically in the hamlet of Venegazzù, which lends the subzone its name.
